The best of drugstore beauty under $20

From high-quality foundations to trend-setting eyeshadows, drugstore makeup has revolutionized affordable beauty without compromising on quality.

When choosing these products, they had to meet 2 requirements. 1) price: nowadays, especially in Canada, some "drugstore" makeup can be just as costly as high-end products, which is why each of these are all under $20, making them more accessible to everybody. 2) shade range: As a makeup artist I value inclusivity very much. I decided to only include products that had a truly inclusive shade range, no one should be an afterthought when it comes to makeup shades.

Eyebrows: NYX Lift & Snatch Eyebrow Tint pen (CAD 13.99). This pen creates fine hair-like strokes that replicate the look of your natural brow. This is great for people who want a fuller brow without the heaviness of a pomade or pencil.

Liquid Eyeliner: Maybelline Hypereasy Liquid no-skip, waterproof eyeliner (CAD 12.96) . I love that this eyeliner features a brush tip instead of the traditional felt tip, which creates smooth lines without skipping.

Pencil Eyeliner: Wet n Wild Mega Last Breakup-Proof Waterproof Retractable Eyeliner (CAD$4.27). Coming in at under $5, this pencil is pigmented, smudge-proof, break-up-proof, and essentially everything-proof.

Mascara: L'Oréal Telescopic mascara (CAD $12.99). This mascara defines the eyelashes without being clumpy or too watery. This mascara is buildable and very versatile, you can use a light coat for a natural lash, or build it up to bring in the drama!

Primer: E.L.F Power Grip primer (CAD 13.97). This primer is not only hydrating, but it also features a gel formula that is suitable for many skin types. This primer will grip your makeup on your face, making it last all day and night.

Foundation: Maybelline New York Fit Me foundation Matte + Poreless Liquid Foundation (CAD 12.96). I love this foundation for a few reasons. 1) the shade range is amazing, ranging from the lightest of lights to deep and rich tones, everybody will be able to find their perfect match. 2) this foundation comes in a matte and dewy formula. Whether you have oily skin or dry skin, you can find a formula that does wonders for your skin.

Concealer: E.L.F Camp Concealer (CAD 8.97). Like the Maybelline foundation, this concealer comes in both a matte and hydrating formula. This concealer is full-coverage, and comes in a wide range of shades. I love this concealer because it covers blemishes and dark circles.

Cream contour/bronzer: is the NYX PROFESSIONAL MAKEUP, Wonder Stick, Dual-Ended Stick (CAD 17.96). This product is very blendable and beginner-friendly. I love how they have both cool-toned shades for contouring and warm-toned shades for bronzing and adding warmth/colour back to the face. They come in a wide range of shades, from fair to deep.

Liquid blush: E.L.F. Camo Liquid Blush (CAD 8.97). These blushes are long-lasting and packed with pigment, a little goes a very long way! Shades range from berries, mauves, pinks, and corals.

Loose setting powder: Wet n Wild Photo Focus Loose Setting Powder (CAD 8.97). For under $10, you can't get much better than this. This powder sets your makeup so it lasts all day, and comes in shades ranging from translucent to deep.

Pressed powder: COVERGIRL Clean Invisible Pressed Powder (CAD 11.97). This powder does it all! It is lightweight, vegan, talc, and fragrance-free. This powder is perfect for mid-day touchups, keeping you matte all day and night. This powder also comes in a wide shade range.

Powder bronzer: L’Oréal Paris Infallible Up to 24H Fresh Wear Bronzer (CAD 19.96). This bronzer does it all! It is long-wearing up to 24 hours, waterproof, heatproof, and buildable. Available in 8 shades, you will find the perfect bronzer for you.

Powder blush: NYX PROFESSIONAL MAKEUP Sweet Cheeks Creamy blush (CAD 12.99). This blush comes in two finishes: radiant and matte, with a variety of shades to fit every skin tone. Ranging from creamy and blendable pinks, corals, berries, and mauves, anyone can re-create the flushed look!

Highlighter: Wet n Wild MegaGlo Highlighting Powder (CAD 7.99). This highlighter will blind all the haters! They have shades for all skin tones, so everybody can find amazing shades.

Lip Liner: NYX PROFESSIONAL MAKEUP, Line Loud Waterproof Lip Pencil (CAD 10.99). Just over $10, this lip liner has outdone all high-end lip liners. I love this lipliner because it is highly pigmented and does not move!

Lipstick: REVLON Lipstick, Super Lustrous Lipstick (CAD 11.97). This lipstick is comparable to most high-end lipsticks, making it my personal favourite. The shade range is impeccable and lasts all day!
